We just added the possibility of customize your user page, being able to create a user profile to tell the others more about yourself, if you want to do so. In the future, we plan to add social network features (like connect with other users, create list of favorites artists, have a custom RSS feed, etc.), and being able to describe yourself should be the first step in that direction.
This was a frequently requested feature, and I hope you all find it useful.

I agree with Glazz. You pick a username, you stick with it. I personally see no reason to change usernames, as this could lead to all sorts of issues.
Changing a user name is sometimes caused a problem with administrative rights in a system.
