Search auto-complete

Hi !

We have a small but very cool and useful feature, an auto-complete function that works over the search field and suggest the firsts most likely results, grouped by artists and albums.

There is a screenshot:

You can click on one of the suggestions or select one moving with the arrow keys and then pressing enter, doing that will jump you directly to the selected album or artist page. If you don't select anything and press enter, you will do a full search, just like before.

We think that will help you to speed the search of common contents, getting results faster and jumping directly to your wanted content, without passing for the search results page. Also, it's fun and pretty.

As always with a new feature, could have some bug, if you find one please report it in feedback forum or as a comment in this post.

The next big feature could take a while, so we wanted to give you before some other minor but cool and useful feature to enjoy in the meantime.

Cheers !

What are we working on, Feb. 2009

This month, we're going to focus on features that are going to enable the users and moderators to report and fix problems with the contents, being the most common issue metadata that doesn't match with the contents of the torrent and missing bitrate information.
The problem is that, for now, our moderators can only choose a set of external metadata that matches better the contents of the torrents, and sometimes they doesn't match exactly. Once we have ready a backend that allows the moderators to edit any metadata, we will roll out a feature for reporting problems with the contents (that otherwise will we useless until we finish that backend).

As surely many of you have noticed, we where busy making some enhancements to the UI. In the meantime, we are going to continue with more enhancements in this area too, and we will rollout a couple of small new features to make the website even easier and fun to use.

Stay tuned !

Happy first month, Coda.fm

A little late, as i almost didn't notice that we are online for our first month (and a couple of days). In that short time, we accomplished a lot of things, including:
  • We added a lot of new features, including the album audio preview, the ability to manage your uploaded torrents, the Reaper, this blog, the twitter feed of published albums, the cover art zoom, and others small ones.
  • We got a lot of coverage and positive reviews in a great number of websites and blogs (google "coda.fm" if you want to know what they are saying about us).
  • We got more than 5000 registered users.
  • Thanks to you, people, we got about 1000 new uploaded albums this month.
  • Five legal threats !
We are going to continue with our commitment of building the best open website for downloading music torrents, constantly improving and adding new features (but always keeping things simple, respecting our ease of use and clean layout), most of theses features unseen before in a torrents site, like some of our current ones. Could be a bumpy ride, as we are under heavy development and implementing new (and risky) ideas, but don't worry, we always are following closely all the changes and listen to your feedback.
Talking about that, i wanted too to thank you for all this cooperation, patience, and feedback, that proved to be indispensable for keeping us in the right direction and setting our priorities right.
Now, i think that the next step is starting to build a real community around Coda.fm, and we will provide the tools needed for that soon.
Expect a post in a couple of days explaining our next steps.
Again, thank you all for make this possible.

Cheers !

The Reaper

We finished and deployed "the reaper", (mentioned in the previous post), the automated process that will automatically delete torrents that haven't show any seeders in a week. Some additional details about how it works:
  • It will also delete the album associated to the deleted torrent.
  • If that album was the only one published by his artist, the artist will be deleted too.
  • The torrents pending for approval will be watched too.
For the torrents that are in the countdown to be deleted, you will see a notification announcing that situation and his remaining time. The notification will appear in any context where the status of a torrent is displayed, and, most importantly, as an alert in your profile page, where will list your published albums with dead torrents:

If you uploaded some torrents, we suggest that you take a look at your profile page to see if any of your uploaded albums are about to be deleted.

This is the notification in the album page:

And in your pending torrents list:

This new feature will help us to keep the website clean of dead torrents, and we hope that the notifications will encourage the users to keep seeding their uploaded albums.

Cheers !
